Pizza from Calabria to London [Street Food]

If you love pizza you have to try Thom, James, and Louis venture, no other than Pizza Pilgrims. Probably you have read it before in many posts from other food bloggers but here it goes again. The pilgrims decided to go on a venture and opening a pizza food truck or should I say Piaggio Ape van. They went to Italy specifically to Reggio to buy, pick up the three wheeled van and bring it back to the UK, a real pizza pilgrimage, six weeks, stopping in several places in their way north, including Calabria, Basilicata, Campania, Lazio, Tuscana, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, and Piemonte, learning recipes and the traditional art of pizza making, that is what I call an adventure.

The stall
They are now residents of the Berwick St market in Soho, and you probably will find them in many festivals as well. I visited them a couple days ago, rainy and particularly windy day, James and Louis where on charge, that was the first day that the three of them where officially full time on the pizza business. They offer me shelter inside the stall, and I decided to go for the Nduja pizza which wasn’t on the menu but they gladly sort me out.

Have to say this is the real thing, it’s rustic, it’s tasty, it breaths Italy and traditional pizza all over, the flavour is spot on, the right amount of tomato sauce, a great mozzarella, the fresh basil touch, everything is just right there as it should. The Nduja was great the right amount of heat not to overcome the flavour. 

Final product
Before leaving James offer me to try a slice of his lunch a salsicce e friarielli (salami, wild broccoli, in a bianca base), it was great, nice flavour again.

Poppie: Use your wrist! It's all in the wrist. Not too high! 
Kramer: Alright, put a little sauce on here, some cheese 
Poppie: Not too much! 
Kramer: And... Cucumbers! 
Poppie: Wait a second, what is that? 
Kramer: It's cucumbers 
Poppie: No, no, you can't put cucumbers on a pizza 
Kramer: Well, why not? I like cucumbers 
Poppie: That's not a pizza. It'll taste terrible 
Kramer: But that's the idea, you make your own pie 
Poppie: Yes, but we cannot give the people the right to choose any topping they want! Now on this issue there can be no debate 
Kramer: What gives you the right to tell me how I would make my pie? 
Poppie: Because it's a pizza! 
Kramer: It's not a pizza until it comes out of the oven! 
Poppie: It's a pizza the moment you put your fists in the dough! 
Kramer: No, it isn't! 
Poppie: Yes, it is!
